About
How Miramis Began
The story begins with the Jonsson family’s search for a Mediterranean summer residence in an authentic place unspoilt by mankind, one with a strong sense of community. As soon as they arrived in Porto Ercole, on Tuscany’s Argentario peninsula, they knew that they had found it.
Inspired by the unique charm of the area and driven by a desire to give back to the town that so warmly welcomed them, they dreamed of creating a small, intimate boutique hotel that would reflect Argentario’s distinctive spirit of place. Their search led the family to an old sardine factory located just a stone’s throw from the docks of Porto Ercole. They immediately saw the potential of this abandoned industrial site, untouched since the mid 1980s.
Acquired in 2017, the former Cirio factory became the conerstone of a small portfolio of unique properties in and around Argentario. But although the scope of the project has grown, the vision has remained constant. A commitment to hiring locally, sourcing from local businesses, cultivating community connections, respecting and conserving the environment. The aim has always been to invest not in property but in a place, in its people, produce, heritage and creativity.

The group is the co-owner of Pop House Entertainment and the immersive music experiences Mamma Mia! the Party and ABBA Voyage.
In Stockholm, Qarlbo AB also owns and operates hotels, arenas and restaurants located on the royal island of Djurgården – a much-loved civic green space which is to the Swedish capital what Central Park is to New York. Qarlbo-managed properties on the island include iconic landmarks such as the Hasselbacken Hotel, the Cirkus Arena and ABBA The Museum.
The company aims to create lasting value for generations by aligning its investments with a commitment to people, communities, and the planet.
Our Properties
Qarlbo currently owns five properties on and around Italy’s southern Tuscan coast, each of which has a profound connection with the surrounding territory. Our Partners
We collaborate with partners who share our commitment to quality, sustainability and the community outside and inside our doors. We choose actors that are able to use their unique skillset to elevate the brands and the destination through responsible practices, local engagement, or innovative design. We believe that cooperation is key to creating new demand by offering guests authentic experiences that deepen their connection to the region.
The History of Miramis
Opening of Ex Cirio
Due to open its doors in 2029, this inviting contemporary sanctuary reinvents Porto Ercole’s industrial past and projects it into the future. Housed on the site of the old canning factory, the minimalist resort will blend in seamlessly with the landscape of a promontory crowned by a 16th-century Spanish fort. With a focus on wellness and culinary excellence, it will offer an exclusive retreat while engaging symbiotically with the energy and heritage of the town that nurtured it.
Re-opening of Torre di Cala Piccola
A historic, much-loved cliffside retreat on Argentario’s rugged western coast, Torre di Cala Piccola will experience a makeover over the coming few years that aims to preserve its legacy while refreshing and elevating the guest experience. Eclectic design and highly personal service will be central to this hospitality legend’s confident new course.
Re-opening of La Capitana
This rustic farm estate surrounded by vineyards and olive groves enjoys spellbinding views over the Tuscan coast and Argentario. It will reopen in 2027 as a rural retreat that elevates the Tuscan agriturismo experience while preserving all of its warmth and authenticity. A mere 30-minute drive from LA ROQQA and Torre di Cala Piccola, the estate is their ideal partner for those in search of a dual seaside-country break.
Opening of LA ROQQA and Isolotto Beach Club
These twin new arrivals have together renewed the Argentario peninsula’s fame as a byword for the art of Italian coastal living. LA ROQQA is a stylish boutique hotel that overlooks the laid-back, unspoiled Tuscan port town of Porto Ercole. Just a few minutes away, Isolotto Beach Club is a haven of barefoot chic in an untamed natural setting. Both embrace Tuscany’s vocation for effortless style, good food and convivial company.
Acquisition of Ex Cirio
The purchase of the former Cirio factory in Porto Ercole marked the beginning of a significant transformation for this historic sardine canning plant. A major driver of the local economy in the central decades of the 20th century, it had long lain empty. It is soon to embark on its second life as an innovative destination resort with a clear focus on wellness, set to open in 2029. Blending into its surroundings with its low volumes and natural roof garden, the bold architectural project will harness contemporary design to the site's rich heritage, creating a unique coastal retreat.
